Laurel Winters

Laurel Winters received her B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.  Her award winning artwork has been shown in national, regional and local gallery exhibitions, as well as local art shows and fairs. Winters’ current artistic emphasis is on protecting and restoring the environment, especially with the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone National Park and the rebalancing of that ecosystem.

Although her degrees focus on painting, drawing and printmaking, Winters enjoys a wide range of media, which has been helpful in her career as a teaching artist working both with children and adults.  As an educator helping other teachers, Winters is on a segment of WNEO’s Sharing Art series. She was a co-author of the Teacher’s Tips column in the art education magazine, Arts and Activities.

As an artist, Winters’ most recent accomplishment is as the illustrator for the Malcolm Finney, Medical Detective book series (available on Amazon). Her illustrations have also been on the cover of Cleveland’s Catalyst magazine, and as the coloring books for Akron’s Hower House (“The House that John Built” and “Hower House ABC’s”).  Winters’ mixed media painting, “There is a Season…” was chosen as the cover of Printemps, a CD by the Girls Choir of St. Albans Cathedral in England.
